Alliance UniChem Farmacêutica to be renamed Alliance Healthcare S.A.
28 February 2007As of 1 March, Alliance UniChem Farmacêutica, S.A., will be known as Alliance Healthcare, S.A. Alliance Healthcare in Portugal is a strategic partnership between Alliance Boots, Associação Nacional das Farmácias (ANF - national association of pharmacies) and José de Mello Participações II.
As an associate of Alliance Boots plc, Alliance Healthcare S.A. will now share the same name as the wholesale division it belongs to, thus creating a brand with a pan-European focus.
Our new brand remains focused on “bringing healthcare closer”. Our new name – Alliance Healthcare – reflects the importance of partnership to us with key players in the healthcare sector.
Alliance Healthcare provides wholesaling and pre-wholesaling services and supports a large network of independent pharmacies. Employing around 30,000 staff, Alliance Healthcare is a leading pharmaceutical wholesaler in Europe, offering innovative added-value services to pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Our Group is present in more than 14 countries, including the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Holland, Norway, Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as, through associates, in Portugal, Egypt, Germany, Romania, Switzerland and Turkey.
In Portugal, Alliance Healthcare is a leading distributor of products and services to pharmacies. In June 2005, Alliance Boots plc, parent company of Alliance Healthcare, S.A., entered a strategic partnership with Associação Nacional das Farmácias, which acquired a 49% interest in Alliance UniChem Farmaceutica and José de Mello Participações II SGPS, S.A., which acquired a 2% interest in the same Company.
