The Netherlands: Name changes for Alliance Healthcare's Dutch businesses

4 June 2007

The names of Interpharm and De Vier Vijzels are changing with effect from 4 June 2007. The pharmaceutical wholesaler Interpharm will now be known as Alliance Healthcare Nederland, in line with the new shared brand for the Wholesale & Commercial Affairs Division of Alliance Boots. The new name of our Dutch chain of pharmacies De Vier Vijzels is Alliance Apotheek. The names of the other businesses in the Netherlands that are also part of the Alliance Healthcare Division will remain unchanged.

Alliance Healthcare Nederland (formerly Interpharm) is currently the second-largest player in the Dutch pharmaceutical wholesale market. The organisation has existed for 111 years and currently has warehouses in Almere, Den Bosch and Meppel from where it supplies, among others, pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and dispensing doctors with medicines and products. Internatio Müller sold the organisation in 2000 to Alliance UniChem, which merged with Boots Group on 31 July 2006 to form Alliance Boots.

Alliance Apotheek (formerly De Vier Vijzels) has also been part of Alliance Boots since 2000. In the Dutch market, the 75 pharmacies are better known as Kring-apotheek. Together with over 230 independent Kring-apotheken they have the largest share of the pharmacy market in the Netherlands. Alliance Apotheek concentrates on pharmaceutical care and cooperation with local healthcare providers.

Alliance Healthcare Nederland is the umbrella brand for the Dutch businesses. As well as the pharmaceutical wholesale business, it includes the pharmacy chain Alliance Apotheek, Kring-apotheek, Stephar, Spits BV and Alloga Nederland. The organisations together concentrate on providing the best pharmaceutical care for healthcare consumers. Alliance Healthcare Nederland has 2,000 employees.
