Germany: Almus Pharmaceuticals to launch its range of generic medicines in Germany

27 September 2007

Almus Pharmaceuticals is showcasing its Almus® range of generic medicines at Expopharm, the international pharmaceutical trade fair taking place from 27-30 September 2007 in Düsseldorf, Germany. It plans to launch Almus® in Germany by the end of 2007.

Almus® is now present in the UK, France and Italy and will soon be distributed in the United States. Almus® was initially launched in the UK in 2003 and rapidly became one of the leading generic brands that country.  The Almus® concept uses innovative, coloured packaging to help pharmacists and patients to distinguish easily between different products and strengths of medication. It is aimed at improving patient safety and has a number of several safety features to aid dispensing in the pharmacy and self medication in the home. These include:

  • Strong pack colour which differentiates products co-located or co-prescribed
  • Strong colour bands which signal different strengths
  • Clear fonts and information layout which minimise confusion
  • Illustrations of medication on front and rear of packs which aid fast, accurate identification

“Aspects of the packaging as well as information provided improve the patients’ self-responsibility. This supports the understanding of the benefits and risks of the therapy and therefore increases compliance as well as improving patient safety”, said Professor Dr Glaeske, University of Bremen.

The first Almus® products will be available in Germany by the end of this year and the range will be progressively developed over time.

Janos Vaczi, General Manager, Almus Pharmaceuticals GmbH, said: “Changes in the market environment in Germany have provided us with an excellent opportunity to enter the market with a new business model which will enable us to pass on the benefits of a lean cost structure direct to our customers. We believe that patient safety is an important issue not only for the patient, but also for doctors and pharmacists. We want to contribute to make medication more patient safe in Germany with the introduction of Almus® to the market.”

Tony Foreman, CEO of Almus Pharmaceuticals, added:  "Now that we are established in the UK, France and Italy, and will soon be present in Germany and the US, our aim is to continue developing Almus® as a truly international brand. As well as its unique packaging, Almus® is the result of a true partnership between pharmacists and manufacturers."
